How to Get SSS Number Online?

SSS Members enjoy benefit such as loan, sickness, death and retirement from the Social Security System - a state-run, social insurance program in the Philippines to workers in the private, professional and informal sectors. In this article you will learn how to get an SSS number online in 2022.
 

    What is SSS Number?

    An SSS Number is a 10 digit number uniquely assigned for every individual that is a member of the SSS program. It is one of the most important numbers a Filipino citizen has and should have.


    Who can get an SSS Number?

    Any Filipino aged 60 and below who has not been issued one may apply for SSS membership. If you belong to the following category, naturally you will get an SSS number.


    Employee

    Individuals who are working on regular, probationary or contractual status are mandated to get an SSS number. Some examples are employees working under:
    • Private sector
    • Household
    • Seafaring
    • Foreign governments or international organizations under administrative agreement with SSS


    Self-employed

    Those who are earning at least Php1,000 from their own business or by providing their professional services namely:
    • Entrepreneurs (Partners or Sole Proprietors)
    • Professionals
    • Informal workers (sidewalk vendors, tricycle/jeepney/taxi drivers, etc)
    • Contractual and job order employees working for government agencies who are not covered by GSIS
    • Actors, directors, scriptwriters, journalists/news correspondents, etc
    • Professional athletes, coaches, and trainers licensed by the Games and Amusement Board, as well as jockeys and trainers licensed by the Philippine Racing Commission

    Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)

    The Social Security Act of 2018 makes SSS coverage mandatory for all OFWs, which means all Filipinos working abroad are now protected under the SSS. They are:

    • Workers recruited in the Philippines by foreign employers for deployment abroad
    • Filipinos who earn income from outside the country
    • Filipinos who are permanent residents in other countries

    Non-working Spouse

    If you’re a legal spouse of an SSS member, you’re qualified to get an SSS number as long as you manage the household in a full-time capacity.


    What is the reason for getting an SSS number?

    1. Job Requirement. Employers cannot hire someone who does not have an SSS number because it is already a mandatory requirement by the law thus if you want to get hired you must prepare this before applying for a job.

    2. SSS Contribution Payment and Inquiry. As already mentioned, the SSS number is the unique number assigned to every member so it will be used when you pay for your monthly contribution and for the verification of a member's SSS records.

    3. Availment of SSS Benefits. Alongside the contribution payment, the SSS number will be used when a member want to avail of the many SSS benefits.

    SSS Benefits

    Qualifying conditions must be met before these benefits be granted to the SSS member.

    • Salary or Calamity Loan. Members can borrow money from SSS for short-term cash needs.
    • Sickness. When a member cannot work due to illness or injury, SSS pays a daily cash allowance equivalent to the number of days they are sick or injured.
    • Disability. Members with a partial or permanent disability may avail of a cash benefit. It is paid either as a lump sum or monthly pension.
    • Maternity. For female SSS members who can’t work due to childbirth or miscarriage.
    • Retirement. Members who are 60 years old that no longer works.
    • Death. An SSS member who dies, his or her beneficiaries will receive a cash benefit.
    • Funeral –A cash benefit given to anyone who paid for the burial costs of a deceased member.
    • Unemployment Insurance – The newly enacted Social Security Act of 2018 requires the SSS to provide a cash allowance to involuntarily separated employees for two months to help them get by while finding a new job.

    How to Get an SSS Number Online?

    If you are not yet a member of SSS, you can get your SSS number without having to visit the branch. All you need to have is internet access and a web browser. So here is the guide:

    1. Go to the sss website at www.ss.gov.ph (If error appears manually search SSS on your web browser)

    2. Tick I'm not a Robot (if images appear just click the asked image) then Submit.

    3. Scroll down and hover on the Apply for an SSS Online menu.





    4. Click START


    Phase 1: Registrant Record Verification.

    Enter your personal details, SSS will then verify if the details entered still has no record on the system.




    • Check your email for the result of the record verification and click the link to proceed with your sss number application. Note: The link expires in 5 working days and once it expires, you need to repeat the registration process.
    • Supply all the required information.
    • Click the "Generate SS Number" button to view your SS number and to print the form, SS Number Slip and Transaction Number Slip. You will also receive the PDF copies of the said documents through email.
    • Check your email for your My.SSS account activation link and the List of Required Supporting Documents for your SS Number.
    • Present the transaction number slip and supporting documents to the E-Center personnel of the SSS Branch.
    • Proceed to UMID Card Enrollment upon the instruction of the E-Center personnel.
